Housebuilding Market Insights - Autumn 2024.
Recent Housebuilding Polls.
We asked our LinkedIn network “Looking ahead over the next 12 months, how do you feel about the outlook for the new-build housing market?”
An overwhelmingly positive sentiment emerged, with just 4% of respondents anticipating a market decline. With strategic support from the new Labour government, the future of the sector looks promising.
These findings align with the feedback we regularly receive from industry leaders. Several factors contribute to this optimism, including the anticipation of further base rate reductions, signs of inflation stabilising (though public sector pay agreements could influence this), and the Labour Government’s commitment to making housebuilding a key policy priority. Additionally, market fundamentals—such as strong demand, population growth, an aging population, and the rise in single-person households—remain robust.
We asked our LinkedIn network “What is the most effective measure the Government could introduce to boost housebuilding?”
Our recent poll revealed some fascinating insights on what the public believes is the most effective government action to accelerate housebuilding. A clear majority (54%) identified increased planning accountability as the top priority. The remaining three options were closely contested, showing a range of opinions. Labour, the spotlight is on you! Additional suggestions from poll comments included: "planning reform and real investment in long-term infrastructure," "a well-funded social housing programme," and "a commitment to promoting careers in the housing sector to people of all ages."
